5 Simple Steps For Living An Abundant Life

What is Wealth?
Many people equate Wealth with being rich and having a lot of money in the bank or being financially independent. I on the other hand have a very different interpretation of what wealth is;
Wealth is not the man who has the most but rather he who needs the least
I’ve come to label my definition True Wealth; to me True Wealth is about living a fulfilling and abundant life in all areas. I’ve identified 6 major pillars that form the foundation to a life of True Wealth, when these areas in sync, harmonious and abundant then you’ve achieved the life of your dreams.
- Financial
- Spiritual
- Professional
- Relationships
- Health
- Personal Development
So here’s 5 simple steps to help you get on track and start living a life of abundance and fulfillment.
1. Eat A Healthy Balanced Diet
You are what you eat! Having a healthy and nutritious diet is a cornerstone for your success in life. One of the first things to do is to plan your meals ahead of time instead of making impulse buying decisions when you’re hungry. Chances are if you wait until you’re starving to make a food decision you will end up going for something in a drive-thru or a processed and pre-packaged snack – none of these things are healthy. Your diet should focus on lean proteins, whole grains and a steady supply of fruits and veggies.
2. Exercise Often
Get up and get moving. Getting your body moving and doing some exercise jump starts your metabolism, keeps you healthy and gives you lots of great energy. I love starting my day with a workout when I can; I can totally tell the difference in energy level between days when I workout & when I don’t. When I start the day with a great workout I walk out of the gym feeling on top of the world and I am in the perfect mindset to tackle the day and have all the energy I need to achieve my goals for the day. Interval exercises are best and even 20 minutes a day is enough to power you up.
3. Get Enough Sleep
This is probably the hardest thing for me. I don’t know about anyone else but I think my problem is I don’t like change – when I’m awake I want to stay up and when I’m sleeping I don’t want to wake up. Do you ever have that problem?
Making sure you get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep per night is key to health and mental alertness. When your body is rested and refreshed you have tons of energy, your mind works clearly, you’re more able to handle life’s stresses and you’re just much happier. Don’t you get grumpy and short tempered your tired?
4. Spend Less Than You Earn & Save
Proper budgeting is key to making this successful. I always recommend using MVelopes for a full featured online envelope budgeting system. It’s what Darla and I use to manage our finances. Managing your finances allows you to know where and on what you’re spending your money. I remember before my bankruptcy I would get a pay check and then halfway through the week I’d check my account and be shocked at how little I had left and I couldn’t even remember what I spent it on.
After you know where your money is going you can start moving things around to ensure you are building an Emergency Fund, Long Term Savings and have some investments for the future.
5. Fill Your Life With Love & Support
After all what’s the point of life anyways if not to share and enjoy with others living life to the fullest. We are all social creatures and we all have ingrained desires to be appreciated, recognized and loved. Surrounding yourself with loving supportive positive people can make such a powerful difference in your life. My Dad used to say:
Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are
For the longest time when I was a teenager and even early 20′s I didn’t want to believe it but now in hindsight I see how true that statement is.
The people we associate with, the environment we live in, the knowledge and information we consume all directly influence our mindset, attitude and outlook on life. Our mindset, attitude and outlook in turn directly affects our results in life. I really can’t overstate this fact.
Make sure you are always surrounding yourself with people that uplift, support and inspire you while at the same time staying away from negative hurtful spiteful people.
Well there you have it; my 5 step strategy for creating True Wealth in your life.
What do you think is the most important of the 5? Which would you implement first?
I love your list. It’s amazing how when you get your finances in order you really start looking at the rest of your list. I love shopping with coupons and found myself buying things for cheap or free that was not healthy for my family to be eating. Now that we are not worried about being so frugal, I am able to start meeting the needs of my family food-wise. I have also joined a gym and I’m ready to start taking care of “me” and not just giving so much of myself to everyone else.
Thanks Whitney. I’ve fallen into the trap myself of buying things with coupons or just things on sale almost “just because” I justified the savings to myself without ever really wondering if these products were what I really wanted. I’m glad you have been able to move past the simple frugal aspects and are taking a more holistic approach to True Wealth. It’s this expanded meaning of wealth that I hope others can take to heart. Life can be so much rewarding and fulfilling when you can bring all the Pillars of your life into harmony instead of just obsessing on any single aspect.
