4 Steps To Better Focus

Mental Focus and ClarityIn todays fast pace world, one of the best things you can do for yourself is take 20 minutes out of the day to relax you brain and body to visualize exactly what you want in your life.  With new technology coming out almost daily and information coming at us from every angle at lightening speed it’s more important than ever to set aside time to clear you mind from any negative thoughts.  Once you clear your mind it’s important to fill it with the things you do want.

Define Your Goals

The first thing that I do is define all goals that I want to accomplish and write them down.  I also identify all of the feelings that I want to feel when I accomplish these goals.  One important thing here is to write down the things that you do want, not the things that you don’t want.  Don’t leave anything out; notate your personal goals as well as any business goals.

Vision Statement

I took some of those goals to write my vision statement. I wrote down the way I envision myself living a year from the current day.  I wrote it down in the present tense as if I already had the things I want.  For example, today is (a year from now) and I am thankful for my beautiful 5-bedroom Mediterranean style house, new black 2 door BMW, loving wife and I feel happy, free, and fulfilled.   Be as vivid and descriptive as possible.  Most of all have fun with this!

Meditate

I find a comfortable spot in my house by myself, where I can relax and maximize my potential to focus.  I enjoy sitting on the couch in my family room when nobody is home.  Sit however you feel comfortable, it doesn’t need to be in any specific position.  Take about 7 to 10 minutes to just focus on your breathing.  Imagine yourself breathing in clean, crisp, refreshing air through you nose and exhaling (out of your mouth) all the toxins that your body holds.  The point here is just to clear your mind to get ready for the next step.

Visualize

Once I have relaxed and focused my mind I read my vision statement and visualize all of the things that I want to accomplish, all of the things I want to have and all of the positive feeling I want to obtain from these things.  I visualize everything from the car I want to drive; to the deep relationships I want to create, to doing charity work in Africa.  There is no limit to what you can visualize, the only limit is the one you place on your own imagination.

I also created a vision board with pictures on it that represent the things that I want in my life.  I placed the vision board next to my bed so it’s the first thing I see every morning and the last thing I see at night before I fall asleep.  My vision statement is on the board as well so I can read it as I look at the pictures.

I have been influenced to change the way I think through watching The Secret, and listening to John Assaraf’s and Murray Smith’s The Answer.  These books transformed my life and the way I think about everything.  I now feel that I am in control of my life and I can choose what I want to happen in my future.  I have no doubt they can do the same for you.
